Hopes High
On Wednesday the 22nd at 2:30 a.m., James, Jenny, and I got on the road to drive up to Watkins Glen State park. Over the last year or so I had visited many state parks and waterfalls, but this had always been on my list to visit still. Once we got there we got lost (as usual), but came to discover that there wasn't much to find. Although it was an unusual 60 degrees, the ice from melted snow and freezing rain from weeks before piled up on the trails, so officials gated off the paths. Eventually, we found one trail that we hopped the gate and were able to navigate through the ice, but it still wasn't enough, so we kept hiking. An hour or so later we reached the end of the trail, tired and slightly disappointed. Then, our over-ambitious photographer minds told us to visit the large wooden train-track bridge that we saw in the distance. Sure enough, the risk was worth the reward, and we captured this view from 300 feet up. In the distance straight ahead was Seneca lake, and just down below was a view of the Watkins Creek that we had walked along earlier.
